Strengthening Bonds in Baringo: A Visit to Our Scholars in Marigat

On a bright and purposeful day, the BrightPath Kenya team made their way to Marigat, Baringo County, to reconnect with our students and their families. These field visits are central to our mission; they ensure open communication, provide mentorship, and allow us to better understand the unique challenges and successes within each community we serve.
👥 Welcoming & Introductions
The gathering began with heartfelt introductions from students, parents, and staff. Stella Jemeli, one of our local leads, delivered the opening remarks, warmly welcoming everyone and outlining the agenda. She also shared important updates, including a reminder for parents to submit the required documents needed to initiate school fee payments.
📚 Student Reflections & Academic Evaluation
Students gave an overview of their school term progress, including feedback on their just-completed midterm exams. Together with the BrightPath team and their parents, we reviewed academic results and encouraged honest reflection on areas of growth and concern.
Identified Issues:
Sadly, three students had been sent home due to fee arrears. After further discussion, we discovered the delay stemmed from a failure to submit term one results and fee receipts on time. The team addressed this with clear communication on expectations going forward.
💬 Group Discussions: What’s Working & What’s Not
In a powerful group session, students and parents engaged in dialogue about the scholarship program’s impact.
What’s Working:
-
Tuition Payment: Families expressed gratitude for the seamless payment system and the support BrightPath provides.
-
Mentorship Program: Both students and parents noted real improvements in self-confidence, discipline, and academic motivation a direct result of the April Mentorship Camp.
Areas for Improvement:
-
Access to Study Materials: Students requested revision books and exam prep materials to help boost academic performance.
-
More Frequent Mentorship Camps: There was a strong call to organize camps more regularly due to their transformational impact.
🎯 Goal Setting for Success
With the support of Josephine Flora (Program Manager) and the parents, students participated in a goal-setting session. They reviewed previous performance, highlighted areas needing improvement, and committed to actionable plans for academic growth. Josephine also encouraged a healthy balance between academics and extracurricular participation, reinforcing the value of a well-rounded student experience.

âť“ Q&A and Final Words
Before closing, we opened the floor to a Q&A session for both students and parents. Josephine addressed concerns with clarity and compassion, strengthening the sense of trust and collaboration.
Stella Jemeli officially closed the meeting, leaving everyone with a sense of purpose, direction, and unity.

đź’› Why These Visits Matter
