In the quiet village of Ganze, Kilifi County, a young boy named Henry Fikiri Baya was born into a world filled with uncertainty but also immense potential. Raised by a single father who relied on casual labor to support three sons, Henry’s path was never promised, yet his determination burned brightly from the start.
After excelling in his KCPE exams in 2015 with an impressive 389/500, Henry earned a spot at the prestigious Ribe Boys High School the only national boys’ school in Kilifi. But joy was short-lived. With no money for fees or even school uniforms, his dream nearly ended before it began. The local community rallied behind him, raising enough to help him start. Still, school life was riddled with interruptions long stretches at home due to unpaid fees, and the haunting thought of dropping out constantly looming.
Just when hope seemed dim, a lifeline appeared. Through the compassionate intervention of his school principal, Henry was introduced to Aiducation International, who offered him a scholarship. His life changed overnight. His school fees were cleared, and he could finally focus on what mattered learning.
Henry finished high school with a strong B- grade, but his ambition didn’t stop there. He was determined to pursue higher education. When he received offers from both We Care4 and the Study in India Scholarship Program, he made the bold choice to study law at Marwadi University in Gujarat, India.
Our Scholarship Program stood by him offering financial support for travel, documentation, shopping, and even a laptop. His local community, family, and relatives all came together, investing in a dream that had once felt distant.
Today, Henry is thriving in his second year as a law student in India, pursuing a world-class education and steadily climbing the ladder of success. In his own words:
“There has been a great-deal change of events from back then in my primary school up to this moment. And I’m sure there is more. I always say ‘Dreams are valid.’ All big achievements start with a dream. I have a dream and I must achieve it.”
Henry is a living testament to the power of community, education, and resilience. He reminds us all that no human is limited a belief echoed in the words of Eliud Kipchoge. BrightPath is proud to have walked this journey with Henry and will continue to walk alongside many more like him.
